Contribute to the Stanberry 150 Project

The Stanberry 150 Project is intended to preserve and celebrate the stories, photographs, documents, and memories that have shaped the community since its founding in 1879. While newspapers, maps, and public records tell part of the story, many of the most meaningful pieces of Stanberry’s history remain in family photo albums, scrapbooks, filing cabinets, and personal recollections. We invite you to help preserve that history by contributing materials for consideration in the final publication.

If you would like to contribute, we are currently seeking historic photographs, family histories, newspaper clippings, letters, business records, event programs, memorabilia, and other ephemera relating to Stanberry and its people. Before submitting materials, please complete the Permission & Release Form, which allows us to consider your contribution for publication while you retain ownership of your original materials.

Photographs

Please scan original photographs at a reasonably high resolution to preserve their quality and detail. If scanning is not possible, photographs may be captured using a cellphone or digital camera. Please ensure the image is well lit, free of shadows or glare, and photographed at its original resolution. Damaged photographs can be digitally restored and are still encouraged to be submitted. If you know the context of the photograph, please include that in your submission so that proper attribution and additional context can be provided to the readers.

Newspapers & Documents

Old newspaper articles, family documents, letters, certificates, and similar printed materials should be scanned whenever possible and submitted as PDF files or high-resolution image files. If photographing these materials, please ensure they are evenly lit, in focus, and free of shadows so they may be reproduced clearly.

Family Histories & Written Materials

Family histories, personal memories, business histories, and written narratives may be submitted as Microsoft Word documents, Google Docs, PDF files, or similar formats.

Naming Your Files

Please give each file a descriptive name (for example: “Smith Family – Main Street Storefront – 1912.jpg” or “John Doe Family History.pdf”). This greatly assists us in organizing materials, referencing them in the Permission & Release Form, and providing proper attribution within the final publication.

Review Process

Because of space limitations and editorial considerations, not every submission can be included in the final publication. Stanberry 150 reserve editorial discretion regarding the selection and placement of submitted materials. We may contact contributors if additional information, clarification, or higher-quality images are needed.

Thank you for helping preserve Stanberry’s history for future generations.

Future Requests

As the project evolves, specific requests for photographs, memories, businesses, families, organizations, or events may be posted to help fill gaps in the historical record. Please follow the Stanberry 150 Project on social media for future requests and project updates.

Pre-Publishing Proofs

Whenever practical, the Stanberry 150 Project will make every effort to provide contributors with proofs or sample pages containing their submitted materials prior to publication. This review period allows contributors the opportunity to verify names, dates, locations, captions, and other factual information, as well as identify any corrections or clarifications that may be needed before printing.

While every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate corrections received during the review period, editorial decisions and publication schedules remain at the discretion of the Stanberry 150 Project.
